Work, work, work

I haven't been on here for a while, but that is because I have been working like crazy all day at my actual job and then all night with school and my quilts.

Well... my first week of my MBA is done and now I get 2 weeks off for Christmas. I am very, very, very, very, very happy about that!

I had a very happy accident with this last quilt and I couldn't be more pleased with how it turned out! I am planning on putting pictures up of the step by step process that I follow when making a quilt. It is pretty organic and I usually don't put a ton of planning into it. Jeremie and I will come up with a sketch and i will just kind of figure it out as I go. I know that probably isn't the best way to do things, but oh well.

I am going to bed now. I have been working so hard at my machine that my shoulders, elbows, and back ache. I feel like an impoverished Mexican woman.

Some jerk....

So I took surface streets home from work tonight because I had to get gas before going home and I just didn't want to fight traffic getting to/on the freeway. So I'm driving down Broadway towards 7th Ave and some jerk in a Nissan truck came right up behind me and started tailgating me. Now, you must know that there are few things I hate more on this earth than tailgating. Then the guys starts flashing his lights and I'm just thinking, "what is this jerk's problem? There is plenty of room for him to go around!"
So he finally changes lanes and speeds up so that he is driving right along side of me. I was preparing some of my best words and some choice hand gestures, but when I turned and looked I realized that it was my nephew-in-law Karson smiling and waving hello. I felt like a fool.

Sorry Karson!

BTW... now driving behind Karson I learned that Karson isn't the safest driver I have ever seen. =)

MBA... that's right!

Well kids... I start my MBA TOMORROW!! I just checked into class and posted my bio a day early because I am so excited. The course materials keep talking about resources available to graduate students and, reading that, it finally hit me.. I'M A GRADUATE STUDENT!

Fezziwig Party!

Jeremie and I hosted the 3rd Annual Mr. & Mrs. Fezziwig's Christmas Ball last night. It was an amazing success!! We had about 26 people show up the first year, 38 the second year and last night we had 54! That's in a 950 square foot condo so people were packed in like sardines, but we had an excellent time! Though tight, it let us know that we can pop the sucker open and host a lot more people! We feel bad that we haven't been able to invite everyone but we can now so next year is going to be even more crazy!! Of course.. pretty much all of the extra people are from my family!!

We served Two Bean Chicken Chili, Meatballs (6lbs!!), Lil'smokies, Sausage Mushroom Dip, Veggies, Meat/Cheese tray, Apple/Cinnamon baked Brie, Double Lemon Splosion Cookies, Spice Splosion Cookies, Peanut Clusters, Chocolate covered crackers w/ Peanut Butter, Snickerdoodles, Oatmeal cookies, Spiced Almonds, Pumpkin bars, and a decorated sugar cookie as a take home gift. The big hits were the splosions, Apple/Cinnamon baked Brie, Meatballs, Lil'smokies and the Chili. Every ounce of those things was eaten and there was A LOT!!

In the spirit of the Fezziwigs we also do a canned food drive for St. Mary's Food Bank and we collected over 15 bags of canned/non-perishable food items.

A lot of people ask us why it is the Fezziwigs... google it and see what you find. =)

The Fezziwig party is my favorite day of the year each year and I am already getting excited for next year as we have decided to invite a lot more people! =) Merry Christmas Everyone!!

Team Builder...

So my academic counterpart Rebecca and I had a joint team builder with our teams today. We went to Kiwanis Park (seriously one of the best parks in the State!!) and BBQ'd hamburgers and hot dogs with chips, potato salad, and other excellent foods you may find at a BBQ. The food was awesome! My employee Bobby revealed the fact that he is pretty much a wunderkind BBQer!

Sand volleyball was my favorite activity of the day. We played several games, but the sand volleyball courts at Kiwanis aren't the greatest. I kept diving as one is wont to do when playing sand volleyball, but it was like diving on concrete and my knees were getting TORE UP. After one particular dive I hit my knee very wrong and now I have a weird swollen bump. AND..I am sure that my arms are going to have bruises up and down them tomorrow. I'm afraid I am going to look like a battered woman. But he says he loves me...

Phew!

So... I have this irrational fear each year that I won't get a single Christmas card. It's weird, but I have to admit that it happens!! Especially because we have this cool iron wall decoration thingy that doubles as a card display during the Christmas season. I am excited to announce that I received my very first card today!! Thanks Becca for easing my irrational Christmas Card fears!!

And... I tried something out today... I hope that you enjoy it.. it felt really weird to do and it may be the only time you will get to hear the softer side of my singing!!

Cake Talk

I really need to get something off of my chest... Charm City Cakes (from the show Ace of Cakes) are WAAAAAAY better cake makers than Carlo's Bakery (Cake Boss). My DVR hasn't been taping any Ace of Cakes right now so I thought that Cake Boss would be a good substitute. Not so much... at least the cakes.

I do like the family dynamic of Cake Boss. I mean... the guy has a million sisters and must be the youngest. Kind of like someone I know. I sympathize with him... it is hard to be the most talented and the youngest. All that jealousy! ;)

Charm City Cakes are so much cleaner, dynamic, creative, and cool. Plus, the people are all funny. Cake Boss has great personalities, but it seems much more staged.

Weird, I know, but this is the crap that I think about.

I am going to post a bunch of pictures of our Christmas decorations tomorrow. As Jeremie puts it... he has his Doctorate from the Martha Stuart School of Decorating with an emphasis in Christmas! :)
